About Us

Community News (cmnews.com.ng) was established to meet the development needs of the grassroot population. The idea of community media has been sustained as a part of solution journalism and development journalism over the years, but with circumspective notion that only radio and local TV are suitable for the purpose.

With the growing literate population in the grassroot areas in Nigeria, and the attendant penetration of telecommunication, internet and data subscription, a significant percentage of the grassroots residents are now online, including young people, opinion leaders, literate artisans, traders and civil servants who are now on Whatsapp, communicating per second in general language of the internet.

Community news has come to leverage on this significant leap in public orientation and media consumption to include this population on the benefits of online media, breaking news at the grassroots per second. This in a way provides native information, provides platforms for expression, inclusion, and opportunities for advancement through awareness, and reorientation.

Cmnews.com.ng is also correcting the erroneous notion that community media is a channel to reach the people in order to diffuse innovation, this one-eye vision has relegated the most important aspect of listening to the grassroot residents rather merely talking to them. Here comes an era to listen to the people, translating their dialects into news features, unique stories of their cultures, needs aspirations, neglects and frustrations.

By listening to them rather than talking to them, we are more equipped to improve the lots of the grassroots, while promoting native intelligence that accelerate development projects from outside and self-help initiatives from inside.

Welcome to the PEOPLE, welcome to the Community.
